This carpet woven in the jail of Amritsar has Persian Bakhtiar all over design. It has four rows of cyprus tree pattens enclosed in alternating blue and white roundels. Interspersed in maroon are rosette patterns. Dull blue background offsets the natural /vegetable dye this has medium to low pile.
Carpet weaving was introduced by the Britsh as a means of reforming the inmates and also to fill their offices and residence with exotic trappings such as these.
