PROVENANCE
The Tandan Collection

The maharaja is shown seated against a bolster, enjoying a smoke from a hookah. He is decked in jewellery: there is a ring on almost every finger, a kada is seen on both wrists, a gold armband adorns his right arm, several necklaces are seen around his neck, and the hem of his attire and turban are lined with gold. A gold turra dangles from his turban. One of his attendants holds a sword and shield, and the other fans the king with a morchal.

This work is an embodiment of the maturity that the Jodhpur style of painting had achieved by this period.
