PROVENANCE
The Tandan Collection

This painting may be that of Prithvi Raj Chauhan, the legendary hero who led the Rajput army against Muhammed Ghori's invasion at the end of the twelfth century.

The well-delineated king is in profile view, with his back upright, having just killed a tiger. Decked in necklaces made of pearls and with a bejewelled sarpech on his turban, the king embodies bravery. The bright orange patka around his waist is in striking contrast to his green dress. The focus of the artist's brush is on the king, and the rest of the painting is less detailed.
