The Tandan Collection

The Rathore clan established the kingdom of Marwar (Jodhpur) in the 13th century, and were famed as fierce fighters. This portrait shows a young prince of the Rathore clan seated on a floral carpet speaking to an adviser. An attendant to the right holds a sword while fanning him with a morchal, and a silver casket lies open by his side. While all three figures are clad in white, the prince wears a brocaded patka, highlighting his importance as the central figure.
