Private Collection, Mumbai

From the very ancient and important civilisation of the Indus Valley, comes this bird sculpture. Although simple and minimal, the work is created with a rawness that portrays the subject in a naturalistic way. The head has a downward tilt as though the bird has just descended. The wings are held wide apart and despite the age of the piece, the prominently set eyes are still visible. For an object from this era, the size of the sculpture is also impressive.
