This early sculpture is distinctly rock cut and would have been part of a larger stone panel. All the features associated with the historical Pallava period are visible ? simple ornaments, a powerful facial expression and a small crown. This warrior holds up and proudly displays a shield in one hand, the dynamic position of his feet showing us that he is in motion. Such celestial beings are often depicted in bigger narrative sculptures.
