Georges d'Espagnat was born in 1870 and began his career as an illustrator for the Courrier Français, where his expressive drawings won him praise and notoriety. He later began painting and exhibited regularly at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the prestigious Salon d'Automne.
