This charming stone elephant stands firm and strong, with its trunk gently curled. Though simple in detail, it carries a quiet grace, capturing the gentle strength of the animal. The elephant has always been one of the preferred animals in India in mythology as well as in ancient architecture. This example in granite shows a dressed elephant with caparison and jewellery. The ears, eyes and trunk are carved in detail and a bell flows down below the abdomen. The simplicity and rustic patina enhance it’s beauty.
