MING JIAJING BLUE AND WHITE BILE VASES

Bearing characters reign mark (under the base)
Porcelain
Height: 21 in (53 cm)
Width: 9.5 in (24 cm)

(Set of two)

Potted in bile bottle shape vase, spherical body, ovoid lower belly, thick, shoulder tapering to straight long cylindrical stick neck, with close rim, raised on short splayed foot base slightly concave. Hand-painted ornamentations are rendered in white base color which contrasts against Wucai design color depicts of merchants standing on the field. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the under-glaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black. This inadvertently gave texture, energy, and shading to the design. The under-base bears a reign mark, a six under-glazed blue script characters reign mark. Its made in the Jiajing Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty
