The book was written by Charles Allen Lawson, who was an Englishman and a member of the Madras Civil Service.

The jubilee celebrations of Queen Victoria marked the 50th anniversary of her reign, and were celebrated with great pomp and pageantry throughout the British Empire. In India, the celebrations were particularly significant, as Victoria had recently been proclaimed Empress of India. The celebrations in Madras (now Chennai) were attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, including government officials, military personnel, and members of the general public.

Lawson's book provides a detailed account of the various events that took place during the jubilee celebrations in Madras. He describes the various processions, parades, and public ceremonies that were organized to celebrate the occasion, as well as the various speeches and addresses that were given by prominent figures. He also provides insights into the social and cultural milieu of Madras at the time, including descriptions of the various communities and ethnic groups that lived there.

The book is a valuable historical document that provides a fascinating glimpse into the cultural and social life of Madras during the late 19th century, as well as the political and cultural dynamics of the British Empire in India. It is a significant work for anyone interested in Indian history, colonialism, or the history of the British Empire.
