Ram Kumar
(1924 - 2018)

Untitled

This work is part of a series of paintings done in the 1960s, depicting human figures who express a sense of alienation and loneliness. Although the man in the painting is peculiar to urban India, dressed in a suit and tie, he is wearing it uneasily, "as though modern India bewildered him," says Kumar. In the later 60s`, Kumar moved away from the and went on to do landscapes.
