PROVENANCE
The Tandan Collection

Portraiture in Rajasthani miniatures was characterised by profile views, elongated eyes, nose and eyebrows. The princess holds a flower and is adorned by jewellery to indicate her wealth and status. She is framed in an archway and the decoration of the architectural elements as well as the upholstery and fabrics around her lend the painting a sense of luxury and wealth befitting a lady of the court. A large number of paintings from 1760 to 1780 Marwar "are in the Jodhpur palace collection." (Randhawa and Galbraith, Indian Painting, p. 93)
