Saffronart's to hold third online auction By GANESH S. LAKSHMAN Saffronart, which claims to be one of the most comprehensive and definitive sources of Indian modern and contemporary art, is to hold its third online auction of Modern Indian Paintings, May 13-16, 2002. The auction is to be held in association with The Taj Group of Hotels. Featured in the online auction is a collection of 200 works, including well-known names like M.F. Husain, Anjolie Ela Menon, Amrita Sher Gill, K.K. Hebbar, Paritosh Sen, S.H. Raza, Satish Gujral, Laxma Goud, and Manjit Bawa, among others. The auction will commence at 9.00 a.m., IST, May 13, 2002, and end at 10.30 p.m., IST, May 16, 2002. As per the auction catalogue, bidding would close at different times, according to Lot Groups as listed in the catalogue's "Bid Closing Schedule." The catalogue lists the base price for the paintings in both dollars and rupees. The bidding can be done online at www.saffronart.com, manually or by proxy, by telephone or e-mail. Bids can be placed over a period of four days. A preview of the auction was scheduled to be held in Mumbai on May 9. Saffronart claims that each work being offered for sale has been certified and is supported by the organization's buy-back guarantee.
