Bull head
Northern Kerala20th...
View Dimensions Bull head figure from the Kalakettu festival in Kerala. This figure is used in the rituals and processions known as Kettukazhcha during a festival of the farming community. Some temples use elephants while others use effigies of bulls and horses. These bull heads are hand-carved and painted with vegetable paint. The whole body is made out of a bamboo frame, then covered with cloth and painted all over. These figures are then adorned with garlands and decorated exquisitely. They are then carried by a group of devotees in processions.
