Gilded Bronze
16th Century

Nepal

Height: 11.5 in (29.2 cm)

Hevajra is one of the foremost Yoga Tantra deities. This bronze figure shows Hevajra in pratyalidhasana with his consort Nairatmya. He embraces his consort with two hands as his remaining arms radiate around him holding various attributes. His eight heads bear elaborate crowns as well as the third eye. The consort clings to him with her left leg going around his hip, clasping him tightly, and her right foot placed close to his left leg. Nairatmya's head is missing. The frontal view of Hevajra's face which would otherwise have been blocked is clearly visible. The expression is fierce and powerful. This vibrant bronze is well cast and is gilded with gold.
