Shirvan is in Azerbaijan the largest country of the Caucasus. Carpet weaving tradition dates back to thousands of years and comprises of both flat and pile woven carpets.Shirvan has both nomadic as well settled carpet weavers; this particular example is that from a settled weaver.
This is a unique piece in which the entire field is created by a continuous use of repetition of the floral motif; it does not have the central medallion or the spandrels.The color palette is also minimalist with an emphasis on blue.
