Agra was an important carpet weaving center since the Mughal period (15th to 18th century) and continued to produce some of the most beautiful carpets well into the 20th century.
This large impressive carpet was in fact much larger but has been resized. The orange hue is very attractive and is the most defining feature of the carpet. The design follows a geometric format; a diagonal grid treated like a vine encloses a stylized plant which has four flowers in cream color. The border consists of two rows of continuous tendrils.
