Born in 1970, Ram Singh Urveti is a Gond artist by profession. Related by marriage to the well-known Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam, Urveti spent five years living with him in Bhopal and learning the nuances of his style of painting. Urveti turns to Nature as the primary inspiration in his work, and his favourite subject is the tree, and what it represents. Painting various forms of flora and fauna, Urveti communicates his sense of the universe as a branching, fruiting and self-extending energy.

The artist has received many honors including the Kali Das Award and the South Central Zone Cultural Centre Award for Tribal Art in 2001. His book, a collaborative effort with Durga Bai and Bhajju Shyam titled "The Night life of Trees", was published by Tara in Chennai, and honoured with the prestigious Bolognaragazzi Award in Italy. Urveti's work also received an honorary mention at the Lalit Kala Akademi's 41st National Art Exhibition in 1998.
