A tribal carpet made by the Khamseh tribes from Shiraz region in south west of Iran. Khamseh literally means five, for this was confederation of five tribes.
Indigo blue and ochre are the predominant colors of this rug as is the bird or the morgah motif which was very popular. Though it has a medallion layout with three diamond occupying the largest areas the boteh or the paisley in the blue field is woven as though it were embroidered on to it, and dispersing the medallion format into an overall patterning. It has a fret work border in orange hues.
