A traditional pair of South Indian ear ornaments that uniquely depicts the wearer’s wealth and social status. The ear ornaments are believed to represent the cobra with its extended hood. The back has stylised ‘footprints’, depicted in the form of a large round appliqué of gold. The precious jewel or mani worn by the cobra appears in the form of a pyramidal knob, while the cobra’s eggs are represented by the orbs on the sides. The ornaments are made of sheet gold filled with lac or wax.
