Quick Zoom

A chroma-plated circular alarm clock with textured red enamel on the front, enclosing a silvered dial; and with two red stones at the base. The dial has a guilloché centre, Roman numerals as hour indices and tritium baton hands. The back of the clock has case numbers 116065AL, ref. 3393, on it, along with a crown composed of a red stone. Signed 'Cartier'.

Cartier first introduced travel and alarm clocks in the 1920s, and this vintage charm combines with contemporary design in recent models. According to Pierre Rainero, head of Cartier's department of image and heritage in Paris, these clocks offer "the convenience of your own clock and the pleasure of creating your own space when you travel." (Quoted in David Belcher, "An Old-Time Grace in Travel Clocks,"The New York Times, 18 March 2015, online)
