From 1933 to 1941, after studying at the J J School of Art, Nageshkar continued his art education in Paris, Munich and Berlin, where he was inspired by European art movements. Indian modernist Vishwanath Nageshkar's paintings are a combination of Indian aesthetics and European sensibilities, and often reflect the influence of the art he was exposed to during his travels. From 1933 to 1941, after studying at the J J School of Art, Nageshkar continued his art education in Paris, Munich and Berlin, where he was inspired by European art movements. His works evolved from the figurative to include elements of Cubism and German Expressionism. Soon after, Nageskhar began a career as a film architect in Germany, until World War II, after which he moved to London. Around the mid-century, he returned to Germany and continued to work as a freelance artist and teacher in various German cities. The present lot, painted in 1974, is perhaps a rendition of an industrial town in Europe, and reflects some of his early Cubist influences.
