1961 PONTIAC LAURENTIAN
MODEL: Pontiac Laurentian YEAR:1961 CHASSIS NO: 1753917939 ENGINE NO: WR-9253275 Turn heads on the drive to Sunday brunch in this classic piece of 1960s Americana. Or better yet, its hard to find right-hand drive version made in Canada for export. An iconic American car brand for over a century, Pontiac traces its roots to the Pontiac Buggy Company, founded in Michigan in 1893. In the mid 1920s, Pontiac became a division of General Motors (GM), and was sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico till the brand was finally discontinued in 2009-10. Today, Pontiacs remain an integral part of American pop culture, having featured in films, television shows and songs, particularly in the 1960s. This 1961 Pontiac Laurentian - its sister model in America was the left-hand drive Catalina - features Pontiac's trademark 'split grille', a distinctive styling feature reintroduced by the brand in 1959, and a wider body and chassis with the wheels moved further out which improved both appearance and handling, leading to the descriptive phrase, 'Wide Track Tiger'. The car is in excellent condition. Its radio, dashboard instruments, switches and knobs and chrome embellishments are all in original mint condition. The car has a 3.1 litre, straight 6 cylinder engine, with a three-speed manual transmission. All of its mechanical parts and components are in working order, and it has five brand new Whitewall tyres. It has been repainted and re-upholstered in the same colour scheme and style as the original, with plush carpeting. Even the door pads have a colour scheme that matches original. The generator has been replaced with an alternator for optimum charging of its battery and to accommodate the additional load of an air conditioning system that can be installed in the future. The odometer reads slightly over 50,000 miles.
