PROVENANCE
Private Collection, Mumbai

This finely cast bronze icon, distinguished by its rich green patina, depicts Kali seated in lalitasana, the posture of ease. In her upper hands she holds a damru (drum) and a noose, while her lower left hand carries a cup, one of her defining attributes. As in both seated and standing representations of this widely venerated goddess, locks of her matted hair rise upward like flames. The pedestal is modest and compact, complementing the elegance of the prabha (divine aura), whose form suggests an early stylistic phase.
