A large and imposing sculpture showing Shiva and Parvati seated in divine union. The figures are sensuous yet serene, with fluid posture and intricate ornamentation. Parvati is seated on Shiva’s lap with her face turning inwards towards him. Attendants, guardians and celestial beings surround the figures from all sides adding a dynamism to the composition. A pair of Yalis as seen in architecture of the times are visible on either side thus denoting that the couple is seated within a chamber. Shiva’s vehicle, Nandi creeps in from the bottom to lick his feet. Parvati’s consort the lion bows in reverence beneath her feet showing no signs of his ferocity. The exposure to climatic conditions over centuries has resulted in weathering further accentuating the beauty of this dramatic sculpture.
