CAUCASIAN CARPET

A magnificent Caucasian carpet from the Karabagh region between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The mellow red field in overlaid with four outsized butterfly shaped medallions, each of which is formed by an octagon at its central core and arms on each of its four top and bottom sides. The field is replete with varied filler iconography representing numerous talismanic symbols, flora and fauna. A beautiful train of animals is seen going across the top edge of the central panel. A single prominent border frames the carpet and is composed of crab shaped icons formed around central diamond shapes.

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung
