The Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) was established in 1997 as part of the United World Colleges (UWC) movement worldwide. United World Colleges provide a truly global learning community with an explicit mandate to foster peace and international understanding. They bring together students from all over the world, on the basis of personal merit alone, irrespective of race, religion, politics or the ability to pay.

They bring together students from all over the world, on the basis of personal merit alone, irrespective of race, religion, politics or the ability to pay.

At MUWCI, around 30% of the student population comes from India and the rest from around 70 countries. A majority of students receive full or partial scholarships. Our goal is to enable students to learn a positive yet critical approach to problem solving and to think globally while acting locally. These values are reflected in the College’s commitment to biodiversity and to sources of energy (wind, solar and bio) that impact minimally on the environment. We are a community built on trust and respect, believing that the best way to learn personal responsibility is by learning to handle freedom.

Over the years, funding student scholarships has become increasingly difficult. In December 2007, the Development Office at MUWCI and Sakshi Art Gallery organized an Artists Residency program, with a view to add both to the quality of life on campus and more importantly to contribute to the scholarship funds available for future students of real promise. Six artists spent a week painting and sculpting on campus, and the proceeds from the sale of the works they made here have aided MUWCI’s Scholarship Fund greatly. One of these works, this painting by Gurusiddappa is based on a photograph he took on campus, where he and his wife and daughter spent a wonderful week with the MUWCI faculty and their families.
