This set of prints is part of the book "Description de l'Univers" by Allain Manesson Mallet (1630- 1706) which was first published in 1683 in 5 volumes.

Mallet was a military engineer and geographer who worked under King Louis XIV. "Description de l'Universe" includes several maps and essays on the culture, religion and customs of the places Mallet visited while on service.

Print (a) is a map of Agra. This black and white print depicts the slightly mountainous landscape of Agra.
Print (b) is a map of Goa. This coloured print is likely to have had the colour added after production. The print depicts the shipping port in Goa.
