Shiraz located in South West of Persia is one of the oldest provinces and has been a centre for trade for centuries.It was also known as the city of gardens, and a center for art and culture which including carpet weaving both in pile and flat weave. The rugs from Shiraz draw their designs from multiple sources and have traces of Qashgai, Afshar, Lori and Bhaktiari amongst others. Since the weavers lead a settled life they use a fixed loom and therefore can produce rugs that are of greater dimensions, also their designs though drawing from a tribal heritage have elements of city rug designs. c. 1920s
