Samarkand was an important market city on the Silk trade route between China and the Mediterranean, here one could find carpets woven in its surrounding regions especially those from Khotan, Kashgar andYarkand and these collectively are recognized as Samarkands. The carpets woven in these regions have Chinese, Turkish and times even Indic influences.
This is a unique carpet and can very well be part of a minimalist modern creative vision; the now pinkcentral field depicts a bamboo plant, and whatever had been depicted on it is now completely effaced.The border is yet another surprise, it is random and does not seem to follow any pattern, it could be representing the pomegranate which is very auspicious amongst the Chinese.
