Wool pile on cotton foundation

Located in North West Persia this city fell on the ancient silk trade route. Tabriz means pinnacle of Islam and is a historic city of Iran dating back to Safavid and Qajar periods.Under the patronage of the rulers of these two dynasties the art and culture achieved its zenith and the same can be held true for the rugs woven in Tabriz.
The hunting scene is a subject that is unique to Tabriz along with medallion and floral patterns. This particular rug depicting a hunting scene is set in refined color palatte of beige and copper tones. The repetition interestingly is aligned in a single vertical band. The postures of the hunters, the intricacy ofthe dried trees and the ferociousness of the wild beast is captured in breathtaking detailing without sacrificing the grace of rhythm to the technical process of hand knotting the carpet.
This is a rare figural rug.
