SENNEH RUNNER- PERSIAN

Early 20th century
Approx. 16ft 7in x 3ft 6in (509 x 109.7 cms)
Wool pile on cotton foundation, natural dye

Traditional floor decoration for homes in Persia was a large central rug surrounded by long narrow rugs on all four sides. These narrow rugs today are identified as runners when sold in the Western market and this piece comes from such a typology.
This rug has 3 diamond shaped medallions in deep blue background and is filled with a continuous pattern of the herati motif. The borders have the looped tendril. This rug is in excellent condition and the blue has a beautiful 'abrash', which is the graduation of color caused by the natural dye.
Senneh lies in Western Persia in the province of Kurdistan, and Senneh is also the dialect spoken by the people.Senneh rugs are distinctive from other rugs from Persia in that they are woven using tightly spun fine wool and are very silky to touch, however the verso is very rough.

Please note that there will be import restrictions on this Lot in the USA, UK, and Brazil. Potential Buyers are advised to check import regulations to their country prior to making a bid decision.
