SURESH KUMAR DHRUVE

Untitled

Signed in Devnagari and dated in English (lower right)
2011
Acrylic and ink on canvas
32 x 19.5 in (81.2 x 49.5 cm)

Suresh Kumar Dhruve is a Gond artist from Madhya Pradesh, hailing from Patangarh, the same village as Jangarh Singh Shyam and Narmada Prasad Tekam. The tree of life is a recurring motif in his work, and is usually portrayed surrounded by people, almost as if a totem. Over the years, his style has evolved and he has moved from using bright bold colors to a more restrained palatte. Now, his works are almost exclusively executed in black and white, with a minimal use of two or three colours. Working on paper or canvas with a pen, his control and the dexterity of his line are remarkable.
