PERSIAN KASHAN

Circas 1920s
Natural / vegetable dye, rose madder and indigo blue
Approx. 13ft x 8ft 7in (396.2 x 261.6 cms)

This Kashan is a fine example of a city carpet, this has overall pattern of vines, flowers in bloom in an intricate arabesque, which is stunning given its size. Kashan carpets are amongst the finest carpets from Persia. The wool is soft lustrous and gossamer, a hallmark of the best wool that been used for this carpet, and giving a it a soft velvety feel to the carpet.
The delicacy of the carpet's design and color unfortunately cannot be captured in a digital image, especially when the colours change with a change in direction of light.
The field is in madder and the border in contrasting indigo with meandering wreath of rosettes.
