TRIBAL VERAMIN CARPET - SOUTH WEST IRAN

Circa 1920s
Natural / vegetable dye
Approx. 5ft 11in x 4ft 7in (180.30 x 141 cms)

Veramin is one of Iran's largest village and is an important centre for tribal weaving. The open pastoral lands proved to be an integral source of inspiration for the weavers, and open field of floral patterns is one of hallmarks of the rugs from this region.
In this carpet we see a stylized pattern of flowers arranged in a trellis creating an overall pattern. These are set in a deep maroon curvilinear border ending in an spandrel. An interesting detail is found in the edges in form of simplified patterns of birds. However the most unusual features are the colours which is an interesting mix of natural dyes with striking hues of yellow, green and pinks.

Please note that there will be import restrictions on this Lot in the USA, UK, and Brazil. Potential Buyers are advised to check import regulations to their country prior to making a bid decision.
