PERSIAN DABEER KASHAN, GARDEN OF PARADISE - CENTRAL PERSIA

Circa 1920s
Approx. 11ft 4in x 8ft 4in (344 x 253 cms)

Kashan is a city in North Central Iran and from the 17th and 18th century onwards some of the finest carpets were produced in its royal workshops.

Dabeer is either a firm by the same name or an individual, whatever their origin, their fine craftsmanship is undeniable. It is also identified with the best wool being used in the weaving of carpets along with superb craftsmanship.
This overall garden rug has a luminous blue field, in which are set small units of stylized flowering plants, forming a homogenous mass of rosette and vine in fine details, interspersed are small birds completing the garden of paradise theme.
The ivory border is resplendent with small flowering plants flanked by a bird on either side; here the placement is not as dense as the main field.
