The hill regions of Punjab and Himachal have nurtured a rich tradition of miniature painting, aspects of which eventually found expression in local hand-embroidery practices. This embroidered textile was likely created as a ceremonial cover for wedding gifts. Krishna is depicted leaning against a cow while playing the flute.
