The hill regions of Punjab and Himachal have nurtured a rich tradition of miniature painting, aspects of which eventually found expression in local hand-embroidery practices. This embroidered textile was likely created as a ceremonial cover for wedding gifts. Krishna is depicted leaning against a cow while playing the flute. He stands within a fully blossomed flower, cleverly intended to suggest a radiant nimbus. Elegant floral creepers unfurl across the background. The design reveals a subtle colonial- era influence and differs from earlier rumaals, which are typically dense with multiple figures.. Here, the restrained palette and compositional simplicity allow the work to harmonise effortlessly with its surroundings.
