The Body of Christ (host) is held as bread in the center of a monstrance and stationed in a designated space, usually the altar or chapel, which allows one to have personal, tranquil, and uninterrupted time with Jesus. The bread is later broken, dipped in wine, and shared with everyone.
Monstrances are usually elaborate in design with repoussé work, mainly carried out by the priest. Others may be much larger fixed constructions, typically for displaying the host in a special side chapel, often called the "Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament". For portable designs, the preferred form is a sunburst on a stand, usually topped by a cross.
