PERSIAN CARPET

A lovely naïve Persian carpet, probably woven by a tribal weaver from the Shahsavan group. Unusual medium length and narrow format carpet, probably woven on a small horizontal loom in a nomad’s tent. A vertical row of three diamond-shaped medallions is drawn on the central axis, flanked by two smaller pendant medallions on either end. The beautiful brownish red field is additionally adorned with eight animals and a pair of birds, further supplemented with a pair of human figures at the lower end. Two narrow borders filled with vines and flowers frame the central panel. High quality wool and beautiful minimal colours. May have been part of a nomadic woman’s personal dowry.
