Volume I: xi and 462 pages including 6 colour plates and 6 black and white plans and elevations
Volume II: vi + [2] + 461 pages including 6 colour plates and 2 black and white plans and elevation
Original publishers’ brown cloth boards with blind-tooled decorative pattern at the front and back boards along with gilt image and text on the front board and spine (both the volumes). Both the volumes are enclosed in an original customised (with toggles) blue book box of Robert & Maria Travis.

A history of Gujarat from the 8th century up to the arrival of the British, as well as a survey of folk literature. Forbes, a colonial administrator in Ahmedabad, was instrumental in the revival of Gujarati literature. When he died in 1865, the Gujarati poet Dalpatram composed the elegy Farbesvirah.
