Nandalal Bose
(1882 - 1966)




The present lot belonged to the Estate of Lady Ranu Mookerjee, who founded the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata in 1933. Lady Ranu, as she later came to be known, was an important patron of the arts. She developed a bond with Rabindranath Tagore and became his muse in later years. They exchanged letters and she spent several years in Santiniketan, where she learned drawing from Nandalal Bose.
