The result of this exchange is a reexamination of everyday narratives and their symbology, particularly in terms of their appropriators.

In this piece, Karne contrasts the Nataraja, Shiva in his dance of universal destruction, with the image of a man jumping through a burning hoop. However, it is not a circus performer that the artist portrays, but a common man, suggesting perhaps that today, with no one to trample away the malevolent forces operating in the world, even everyday survival involves jumping through flaming hoops.
