Kartikeya is the son of Shiva and Parvati, and brother of Ganesha. He is the God of War, and is depicted in this sculpture with a peacock with a snake held in its beak. This iconography represents the conquering of sensual desires. Kartikeya is represented here with six heads and in his many arms, he holds attributes received from the gods. His upper body is decked with jewellery, and his lower is draped in a dhoti. A classic kirtimukha (glorious face) centers the background prabhavali.
