In this particular piece, the jagged lines and broken planes of color emphasize the violent motions of the beasts. They come to symbolize man`s more turbulent desires and unbridled passions. "Husain`s horses are subterranean creatures. Their natures is not intellectualized: it is rendered as sensation or as abstract movement, with a capacity to stir up vague premonitions and passions, in a mixture of ritualistic fear and exultant anguish."
