To the Indian woman, bangles are "lustrous tokens of radiant lives, for happy daughters and happy wives". The bangle is one of the most classic of all Indian jewels. Crafted from the widest variety of materials, bangles are auspicious jewels - a symbol of marriage, celebration and good luck. The earliest piece of jewelry put onto a new born child, is the bangle. The simple circle of gold is intended to confer intelligence and longevity. Animal head bangles originated in India where all nature found a resonance in art. Here, the two makara heads represent the convergence of intellectual knowledge and intuitive knowledge.
