V Nagdas is a painter and printmaker who was born in Pallakad, Kerala in 1957. V Nagdas is a painter and printmaker who was born in Pallakad, Kerala in 1957. He received a National Diploma in Painting from the College of Fine Art, Trivandrum, Kerala in 1982 and a Post Diploma in Graphic Art from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal in 1984. He completed his research with a National Scholarship under the guidance of artist Sanat Kar in 1986. From 1986 to his retirement in 2022, he worked at the Department of Graphics at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh. He became the Head of the Department of Graphics in 1993.
He has held many solo exhibitions including at Museum Auditorium, Trivandrum in 1982, Nandan Art Gallery, Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan in 1984, State Lalit Kala Akademi Art Gallery, Cochin in 1985, Cymroza Art Gallery and Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and Art Heritage Gallery, New Delhi in 1986. His solo exhibition at Rabindra Bhavan, Lalit Kala Akademi, New
Delhi in 2006 was dedicated to the late Somnath Hore. In 2007, his solo exhibition Impressions was held at Kaleidoscope Art Gallery, Vadodara. He has participated in group exhibitions like Current Impressions at Frank Museum of Art, Otterbein University, Ohio and Earth and Water-Around the Globe at Ruchika’s Art Gallery, Goa in 2008, at Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi in 2012, Les Sentiments IV at Konferenzzentrum Fa, Graz in 2014, MAC A ART at Asilah, Morocco in 2016, Conglomeration 2 at Calicut, Kerala in 2017, and Xylon Osterreich & Friends at InParadiso Art Gallery Venice in 2018.
He was awarded a Gold Medal by the Kerala State Lalit Kala Akademi in 1987, a National Academy Award by Lalit Kala Akademi in 2000, and a Special Grand Prize by Bharat Bhavan and a Grand Award from the All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society in 2006.
In 2023, he was appointed Chairman of the Lalit Kala Akademi.
