Sathyanand Mohan was born in Kerala in 1975. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in painting from the Government College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum, in 1998 and then his Master’s degree in printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, in 2000.
Through his works Mohan shares with his viewers several aspects of his life. He uses biting wit to display these events in a manner that intrigues his audience, drawing their attention to the narrative that lies within the imagery. His canvases maybe compared to a shot in a film or a page out of a book – there always seems to be something that happened before, and something waiting to happen after. Recently, the artist has turned to abstract photography, exploring signs and forms rather than narrative.
Mohan’s first solo show ‘Reliquary’, was held at the Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2009. His work has been featured in several group shows including, most recently, 'Multitudes' at the Goethe Institut, Bangalore, in 2009; 'Through a Glass Darkly : Reflections on the Self-Portrait' at the Guild Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2008; 'Uncovered' at Sans Tache Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 2008; 'Interlude: Venice / Kassel' presented by the Guild Art Gallery at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai, in 2008; and 'Obscure Object of Desire' and ‘Rebel Graffiti’ at Gallery OED, Kochi, in 2007.
