A fashion designer by profession, he graduated with a specialization in Apparels from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Gujarat. He now teaches Fashion and Apparel at the same institution. Joshi has a keen interest in the history of art and fashion, and apparel as well as fashion photography and illustration. Describing his recent paintings, the artist notes, "Portraits and landscapes form the central theme of my work - I have been working in this area since the past six years. The central image is the human bust - so, in a sense, these works could be read as portraits. I am also seeking to demonstrate what can be done with paint on its own; without a model/sitter to represent or a story to narrate. The objective of these works is to highlight the raw act of painting and the action of paint on a surface. Forms signify an added dimension of the composition – vertical, being representative of a figure, and horizontal reminiscent of the a habitat or the horizon." Through his career, Joshi has undertaken several research ventures that not only spread awareness, but also document various forms of textiles and clothing that may be slowly disappearing in India. He is interested in studying traditional embroidery, fabrics as well as adornments, and many of Joshi’s projects have showcased his active involvement in the rural, including tribal dance forms and the training of traditional artisans. In keeping with his effort to document these arts and crafts, Joshi has also attempted to revive dying art forms into contemporary art and fashion. In 2007, he undertook “Kora”, a project involving the promotion of hand woven textiles to young wearers, and the promotion of Khadi by giving a new look to the Khadi shops in the city of Jaipur. The artist's first solo show, '12', was hosted at The Loft, Mumbai, in 2009. In 2003, Joshi was awarded the Best Diploma Project award for contemporary application of traditional craft skills in apparel at NIFT. For this project, Joshi worked with wax resist and indigo dyed textiles. He has also participated in DSYGN’04 – a showcase and trade show of national designers working with apparel in 2004. His current project involves designing uniforms for railway staff on privileged trains like the various Rajdhani lines.
