Nayak has a Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Dharwad University. In quest of an identity Nayak has leapt from the miniature painting to the realm of modem art though in him, one finds a happy marriage of the modern and the traditional. A characteristic feature of his paintings is that almost each of his pictures contains folk motifs and rituals; Conventions of space, the unusual costumes of his characters, and an original use of pictorial devices are always justified. Thus reminiscence has become a keynote in all his work. What we see in him is not drawing from nature, but memory transformed by imagination. Prakash's impressions of folk culture of coastal Kamataka are reflected in the series of pictures entitled "Goddess". The cycle of pictures 'Goddess' stands out for its philosophical reflection and a lyrical mood which is matched by painterly means - the tense, compact brush strokes, the combination of bluish shades and ochre, often highlighted by deep brown the leaves, the fish, the birds and the colorist richness suggest the abundance of life, its eternity, beauty and bounty, and of course the strong ties that link men and women to their native land, native culture and native world - view. Nayak exhibited his works in several shows, solo and group in Karnataka, New Delhi and Singapore. Currently the artist lives and works in Bangalore.
