Navin Thomas is a sculptor and sound artist born in 1974. He was formally trained in graphic design and also holds a diploma in Cinematography from the Karnataka Film and Technical Training Centre, Bengaluru.
Thomas’ work deals with human existence within electro-acoustic ecologies. His installations and sculptures are created from found materials like electronic waste. His work aims to rethink received ideas about the natural world and establish architecture as essential to its environment.
His installation long live the new flesh was exhibited at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in 2014. His works have been exhibited at Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and Lalit Kala Akademi in India, Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Poland, and Maximillan Forum in Germany. His work was also shown as part of Art Walk Water curated by Gayatri Sinha at EuropaliaIndia, Liege. He has won grants from Sarai (CSDS) and India Foundation for the Arts. In 2012, he was awarded The Skoda Prize for Contemporary Art.
Thomas lives and works in Bengaluru.
